Getting Started

Solo Media is a browser extension that hides social media distractions. This guide will walk you through installation and choosing your first focus profile.

Step 1: Install the Extension

Solo Media works with all major browsers. Visit solomedia.top and click "Add to Browser" (or "Add to Chrome" / "Add to Firefox" depending on your browser).

The extension is free to install and includes all core features.

Step 2: Choose Your Focus Profile

Solo Media includes four pre-built focus profiles. Here's how to choose the right one:

Creator Mode

Best for: Content creators, influencers, social media managers
Blocks: All feeds, recommendations, Shorts/Reels
Keeps: Upload tools, analytics, comments, DMs

Research Mode

Best for: Students, researchers, professionals
Blocks: Recommendations, sidebars, autoplay
Keeps: Main content, search, specific videos/posts

Light Focus

Best for: Beginners, casual users
Blocks: Only the most addictive elements (Shorts, Reels, Trending)
Keeps: Most features intact with gentle guardrails

Custom

Best for: Power users who want complete control
Blocks: Whatever you choose
Keeps: Everything else

Step 3: Try It Out

Open YouTube, Instagram, or any supported platform. You'll immediately see the difference—distracting elements are replaced with your chosen nudge messages.

Don't worry: you can switch profiles anytime or pause blocking with one click.

Step 4: Set Up Scheduling (Optional)

Want blocking active only during work hours? Or weekdays only?

  • Click the Solo Media icon
  • Go to "Schedule"
  • Set your focus hours for each day of the week

The free plan includes 3 scheduled time windows. Pro users get unlimited scheduling.

Next Steps

You're all set! Use social media for a few days and check your analytics to see how much time you're saving. Most users save 5-10 hours per week once they've adjusted to intentional usage.
